As you progress, dream sequences are unlocked which unravel the mystery that is Kaim's past. When you begin the game, you learn that Kaim has recently had his memories taken from him. You discover that the aforementioned Kaim is an immortal who has been living on a version of our planet that has supported magic for years. One of the aspects of this game that make it so great is its story. JRPGs on the Xbox are few and far between, but in a minority genre this game is the leader. Lost Odyssey is styled traditionally like a JRPG but has an abundance of modern adaptations to improve on a classic concept. That is the life given to the protagonist in Lost Odyssey, Kaim Argonair. Well, this is exactly that.Ĭould you imagine living forever while those you love pass away? Where the only thing you have is your memories, and even those are taken away from you? Although, if you're not a fan of cliched turn based games. If you're even just after an adventure with a decent story, that you can really spend some time on, I'd still recommend it. If you're looking for a classic JRPG, Lost Odyssey is perfect for you. The rest of the achievements are for learning all skills (very time consuming) and defeating special bosses (some of which require hours of traversing through dungeons before you even reach them). The achievements are fairly straightforward and it is easy to obtain at least 600/1000 by just playing through the game. There are plenty of sidequests and things to keep you busy. It uses turn based combat with a certain 'ring' interaction, and isn't all "Grind, boss, grind, boss." like many turn based games are. I don't think reviews gave Lost Odyssey enough justice, as JPRG's are rare on the 360, and as far as this goes, it is fantastic. The only real problem I found with the characters was the 'bad guy' and how quickly you can figure out the plot - within the first few cutscenes on the first disk, you know roughly what will happen at the end of the fourth disk. The characters are interesting and beautifully rendered, each with their own story. Lost Odyssey has a gloriously cliche story and at times can be rather cheesy - although, arguably, that's where the charm lies. But for those that enjoy character and story development, Lost Odyssey offers you enough of that with some exciting extras to keep things interesting. It is a JRPG to the fullest extent, playing with all the characteristics of games such as Final Fantasy and Blue Dragon. To start, this game will not convert any players that dislike RPGs. Instead of a week long distraction, I found one of the most wonderfully engulfing games I've ever played on any platform, that I still occasionally play and have considered starting again. I bought this game hoping for a semi-decent RPG to distract me whilst I had some time free from university.
